Objectives

"Playlist for Change: Music, Lyrics, Politics" is a project inspired by participants of our international youth initiatives. While discussing pressing European and national challenges, young people from the international youth exchange "Team Up" last year emphasized the importance of such dialogues. At the same time, they proposed using creative approaches—such as popular music and song lyrics—as a tool to explore societal values, conflicts, protests, emotions, and public sentiment. Moreover, they saw music as a means of spreading constructive, democracy-strengthening values among young people. At the same time, partners from Poland and Lithuania have told us that their participants strongly favor projects focusing on cultural and creative techniques. From the viewpoint of our organizing team from three countries, this project is designed to support young people at a crucial stage of shaping their political identity. We aim to help them develop critical thinking and resilience against populist narratives that fuel polarization. Instead, our project will encourage open dialogue, democratic discussion of solutions, and the search for common European values. We believe that popular music and song lyrics—an art form that resonates deeply with young people—combined with creative activities can serve as a powerful tool for meaningful discussions, broadening perspectives on complex social issues, strengthening international cooperation, and shaping the future of Europe together. As a result of the project, participants will create a creative video featuring their favorite lyrics transformed into short poems about what matters most to them. The video will be accompanied by a soundtrack composed and recorded by the participants themselves. It will then be shared across social media and local youth clubs, engaging even more young people in discussions on key values and challenges.
