Objectives

Our project titled "The Migrant Chronicles: The Diverse Realities of Migrants Shown through Digital Comics" brought together 35 young people from 7 different countries in order to foster empathy, highlight the digital comics in order to be heard about migrant stories, and situations in today's world. Migration is a complex experience that is often oversimplified, stigmatized, or misrepresented in mainstream narratives, reinforcing social divides and obscuring the diversity of migrants' backgrounds and contributions. Our project set out to counter these narrow narratives through digital comics as an accessible, language-independent storytelling medium. The core objectives of our project were: - To use digital comics to highlight the human side of migration and foster empathy among diverse audiences - To provide a space for migrants to share their stories authentically and creatively, emphasising their agency and resilience - To address stereotypes by showing a variety of migrant experiences, from overcoming challenges to achieving personal growth and contributing to society - To promote the appeal of comics as an educational tool for young people, encouraging critical thinking and inclusivity - To facilitate cross-cultural dialogue by visually representing universal themes such as belonging, identity, and hope These objectives were pursued through a youth exchange held in Berlin, Germany, from 13–22 January 2026 (8 activity days plus 2 travel days), with participants coming from Germany, Czechia, Italy, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Türkiye.
