The issue of discrimination against women, particularly in the workforce, remains a significant concern for the EU in its ongoing efforts to promote equality and social progress. In 2017, the European Commission highlighted the political importance of women's rights by making them the central theme of the Annual Colloquium on Fundamental Rights. This event brought together national, EU, and international policymakers, civil society organizations, and media representatives to address key challenges such as gender equality, societal misogyny, violence against women, and the gendered nature of hate speech and discrimination. Despite progress, gender discrimination continues to be a pressing issue, particularly in Eastern European countries and rural areas across the EU. High levels of discrimination limit women’s access to opportunities in various sectors, including employment. The youth exchange "NEET Women NEED You" aims to address these ongoing challenges by equipping young people with practical tools, knowledge, and action plans to foster meaningful change in their communities. The project aligns with EU policies on women's rights and supports its broader priorities. A key objective of the project is to advance participants’ understanding of EU strategies, such as the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR), which has set an EU-level target to reduce the share of young people neither in employment, education, or training (NEET) to below 9% by 2030. However, in 2023, the EU-wide NEET rate stood at 11.2%. (source: https://shorturl.at/XCMSh) Although NEETs include individuals of all genders, statistics indicate that young women face higher unemployment rates than men. According to Eurostat, in 2023, 12.5% of young women aged 15–29 in the EU were NEETs, compared to 10.1% of young men—a 2.4 percentage point gap. (source: https://shorturl.at/elqxt) By addressing these disparities, "NEET Women NEED You" aims to contribute to the EU’s efforts such as #EndGenderStereotypes in promoting gender equality, reducing youth unemployment, and fostering a more inclusive society. The objectives of our project are: Addressing Gender Discrimination in Employment: Raise awareness about gender-based barriers in the labor market and equip participants with strategies to overcome discrimination, including confidence-building and advocacy skills. Promoting Gender Equality and Women's Rights: Educate participants about gender equality, legal rights, and frameworks that protect women in the workplace, empowering them to challenge discriminatory practices. Empowering NEET Women through Skill Development: Provide targeted training in job-seeking skills, such as CV writing, interview techniques, and personal branding, with a focus on overcoming biases related to gender. Building Networks of Support for NEET Women: Create peer support networks where women can share experiences and resources to combat isolation and build solidarity in facing employment challenges. Developing Leadership Skills to Combat Discrimination: Encourage participants to develop leadership and advocacy skills to actively challenge gender discrimination and promote inclusive work environments. Encouraging Entrepreneurship as a Path to Independence: Support NEET women in exploring entrepreneurship as a way to bypass traditional employment barriers, with training on starting small businesses and accessing funding opportunities. Raising Awareness of Gender Bias in Recruitment Processes: Conduct workshops on identifying and addressing gender bias in recruitment and workplace environments, including how to advocate for more inclusive hiring practices. Strengthening Resilience in the Face of Gender-Based Challenges: Provide mental health and resilience-building sessions to support women in coping with the psychological impact of discrimination and empower them to stay motivated in their job search. Empowering Participants to Act as Advocates for Gender Equality: Equip participants with the knowledge and skills to become advocates for gender equality in their own communities, spreading awareness and driving change. Strengthening on EU values, European identity and solidarity: Promote EU values, foster a sense of European identity, and encourage solidarity across borders by engaging participants in intercultural exchanges and discussions about shared European goals. Raising Awareness on Erasmus+ Programme and its opportunities for people: Increase participants’ knowledge of the Erasmus+ Programme and the opportunities it provides for education, training, and personal development, encouraging them to take part in future Erasmus+ projects.
