Our project "Fields of Tomorrow – Rethinking Urban Agriculture and Future-Proof Food Systems" aims to empower young people by providing them with knowledge, skills, and experiences related to sustainable agriculture and food production in urban areas. Through non-formal learning methods, we promote environmental awareness, teamwork, and critical thinking while encouraging participants to take an active role in shaping a more sustainable future. The project aligns with the objectives of Erasmus+ by fostering intercultural dialogue, promoting active citizenship, and addressing societal challenges such as climate change and food security. Participants will engage with global issues, develop solutions, and strengthen their sense of responsibility through hands-on activities. The exchange also promotes inclusion by bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds and raising awareness about social inequalities in food systems. Intercultural learning plays a key role, as participants from different countries share perspectives on food systems and sustainability. Through workshops, field visits, and digital tools like an "Actionbound" - a form of educational digital scavenger hunt/city tour - they engage in interactive, non-formal learning. Additionally, participants actively shape the program by leading discussions, designing advocacy campaigns, and learning about creative solutions for sustainable urban agriculture. The project builds on the outcomes of the "Move2Change" youth exchange in 2024, where participants explored sustainable farming practices in rural Italy. Their enthusiasm highlighted the need for a follow-up project focused on urban food systems, connecting sustainability with everyday life in cities. "Fields of Tomorrow" aligns with the EU’s "Farm to Fork" Strategy, which promotes sustainable food production and reduced food waste. Given that agriculture contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, raising awareness and fostering action in this field is crucial. Throughout the exchange, participants will explore urban food production, climate-friendly diets, and strategies to prevent food waste. They will gain hands-on experience in growing food sustainably and structuring regional supply chains while reflecting on their own consumption habits. The project fosters leadership, digital communication, and collaboration skills, helping participants expand their networks and work with local organizations. After the exchange, participants will apply their knowledge in daily life and community projects, adopting more sustainable behaviors and inspiring others to do the same. The acquired skills will also open new career and educational opportunities, as sustainability is an increasingly relevant field. Through Youthpass certification, participants can document their learning outcomes and increase their employability. To ensure long-term impact, we will develop advocacy campaigns and interactive educational tools, sharing the project’s results through social media, local events, and partner networks. By linking local action with European priorities, "Fields of Tomorrow" equips young people with the skills and motivation to contribute to a more sustainable and fair food system.
