Objectives

YouBridgEU empowers 60 young people from Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and France. All exercises foster active engagement in democracy, the EU, youth participation, fundamental rights, remembrance and media literacy. Through interactive workshops, site visits, and 2 cross-border exchanges, the project enhances critical dialogue, practical tools, and builds a pan-European network of young democracy advocates. By connecting historical memory with contemporary EU frameworks, the project empowers participants to become active contributors to society. Both exchanges will encourage critical reflection on democracy, culture, youth engagement, and remembrance. Youth from BiH, Germany, and France will explore how their histories have shaped their democratic paths. Marking the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the programme in BiH includes visits to historical sites and meetings with survivors. The activities emphasise the role of remembrance in reconciliation and building democratic resilience. In Germany, participants will examine the EU’s role as a peace project after WWII. The exchange highlights participation avenues to strenghten democracy and fundamental rights long-term, linking lessons from BiH to Europe's efforts in fostering solidarity and cooperation. Activities focus on key Youth and Erasmus+ Goals, such as promoting democratic participation of youth, tangible skills, increasing youth engagement in Europe, and fostering social cohesion through cross-border collaboration. YouBridgEU empowers young people to actively engage in democratic processes, giving them a platform to share ideas and experiences. This approach not only addresses democratic participation but also ensures equality and inclusion that transcends national boundaries. YouBridgEU strengthens EU awareness and media literacy through practical examples in each partner country. In alignment with Youth Goal 1, Connect EU with Youth, the project ensures that young people are aware of the opportunities, policies, and avenues for engagement that the EU offers. An example is the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI). Similarly, the programme promotes cross-border collaboration and social cohesion, fostering a long-term network of youth and CSOs working on remembrance/memoralisation, democracy, and fundamental rights. The project supports Youth Goal 3 by promoting inclusive spaces, social cohesion, and low-threshold participation - ensuring all young people can engage actively in the areas that concern them. It aligns with Youth Goal 4 by fostering access to reliable information, critical thinking, and dialogue, empowering youth to shape their societies. Enhancing Youth Goal 9, YouBridgEU reinforces democratic participation by encouraging young people to take ownership of their rights and responsibilities. Together, these goals nurture individual growth while fostering a collective commitment to a more democratic and inclusive Europe. The exchanges will give young people a deeper understanding of democracy, especially in post-conflict societies like BiH, France and Germany. For the young people from BiH, this exploration will be closely tied to their country’s ongoing EU accession process, emphasising the vital support of democracy toward integration. At the same time, participants from Germany and France will reflect on how EU membership has contributed to democratic stability and fundamental rights in their own countries. From the perspective of youth work practice, we focus on these main objectives: - Explore EU impact on democratic resilience: Examine the EU’s contribution to democratic stability and resilience in Germany, BiH, and France, highlighting how EU tools and mechanisms support civic participation, policy-making, and democratic safeguards in each country’s unique context. - Foster youth-led democratic participation: Cultivate tangible participation skills among participants, encouraging them to engage in local, national and European democratic processes. - Strengthen EU awareness and identity: Counteract Euroscepticism by showing positive examples of EU involvement in each partner country, illustrating the benefits of EU membership (Germany and France), and EU partnership and enlargement (BiH) for local communities. - Build cross-cultural youth networks: Connect youth from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering shared values and mutual understanding across borders. Create a long-term youth and CSO network on remembrance/memoralisation, Europe, and youth participation. - Connect historical and political systems: Develop a deepened understanding of the historical conflicts, and the value of civic memory in post-conflict democracies. - Innovation through art and media: A final “Light Opera on Human Rights” installation will generate awareness on the project’s topics also among the general public. The immersive installation symbolises participants’ journey and promotes youth voices in democratic discourse.
