In many countries, antidemocratic attitudes are on the rise, accompanied by violence and hate speech against minorities. There is polarization and distrust towards democratic institutions, both within countries and across borders. In Brandenburg and Greater Poland, young people are also facing uncertainties and challenges, leading them to question their existing values. Often, youths lack the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to actively participate in shaping their own living environment. Meeting places for young people are crucial to collectively build networks for the promotion of democracy and human rights. Through the German-Polish Youth Agora, we aim to empower young individuals and develop new projects tailored to the needs of youth, ultimately strengthening youth participation in rural areas in both countries sustainably. Our goal is to breathe life into the EU-contract objectives related to participation, democracy, and sustainability.
