The R(ural):EVOLUTION project aims to empower youth in the rural Altenburger Land by enabling them to take an active role in local decision-making through participatory budgeting. The main objectives are establishing a youth-led project funding model, where young people have control over budget allocations, and they are developing civic engagement and project management skills among participants. Further we look towards exposing youth to European best practices in youth participation through visits to decision-makers and visits from decision-makers and creating a more youth-friendly and vibrant community by supporting youth-led initiatives. In later stages we will be advocating for youth co-management of local resources with decision-makers, strengthening youth influence in local governance. The project directly addresses challenges such as youth disengagement, migration, and limited opportunities in rural areas by fostering a sense of ownership and active participation.
