Objectives

The project Pathway to Unity was implemented to address the growing need for informed, empathetic, and youth-led engagement on migration and refugee integration in Europe. Against the background of increased migration flows, social polarization, and misinformation, the project aimed to equip young people with practical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and intercultural competences related to migration, asylum, and social inclusion. The main objectives of the project were to increase participants’ understanding of European migration realities and policies, including the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum; to strengthen empathy and awareness of the lived experiences of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons; and to develop key competences for lifelong learning through experiential, non-formal education methods. An additional objective was to promote active participation, leadership, and peer learning by involving participants directly in the design and facilitation of project activities. The project also aimed to foster intercultural dialogue and civic awareness by enabling participants to compare migration and integration approaches in different EU contexts through an itinerant learning format implemented in the Netherlands and Denmark. By the end of the project, participants were expected to demonstrate increased knowledge of migration-related issues, improved intercultural and communication skills, and greater readiness to engage in local dissemination and follow-up activities in their home communities.
