Project "ATHENA" is a youth participation activity co-created by young Estonian women in collaboration with EUnexus, the European Parliament Liaison Office in Estonia, and Hanah Lahe, Member of Parliament. The project equips women aged 16–26 with the skills, networks, and confidence to engage in governance and leadership at national and EU levels. Despite progress in gender equality, young women remain underrepresented in decision-making due to systemic barriers, lack of mentorship, and societal norms discouraging political ambition. ATHENA addresses these challenges by equipping participants in public speaking, negotiation, and advocacy, breaking limiting beliefs alongside mentorship from female leaders and institutional engagement. Our project fosters leadership identity, strengthens peer networks, and integrates participants into youth councils and civic organizations.
