The story of S.A.V.E. begins with a simple yet powerful observation, young people learn best when combining passion with purpose. While traditional and non-formal environmental education often focuses on problems, our project introduces an innovative approach through lifesaving sports - an activity that not only saves lives but also creates deep connection with truth values. Through our work with young people, we've discovered that learning water safety doesn't just build practical skills; it develops a profound understanding of our relationship with the environment. Recent experiences have shown us that young people are eager to protect their environment, but often feel powerless in the face of environmental challenges. By introducing them to lifesaving sports, we open a new perspective where physical activity meets civic protection. Whether it's learning abut prevent of disasters or practicing first aid, these skills stay with young people for life, extending far beyond the project's duration. In a world where 77% of young Europeans feel disconnected from practical emergency response skills, and only 23% feel prepared for environmental challenges, we see an opportunity. Not just to teach, but to inspire through action. First aid and lifesaving skills become not just practical necessities, but gateways to understanding our environment and our role in protecting it. From a youth work perspective, our project addresses this gap through interconnected objectives (O): O1 focuses on mastering lifesaving techniques for natural disasters. Through innovative training methods and practical exercises, participants learn and demonstrate essential safety skills adapted to various emergency scenarios. This hands-on approach ensures young people can effectively respond when their communities face environmental challenges. O2 connects daily actions with environmental impact. Participants explore how human activities intensify natural disasters through practical demonstrations and real-case scenarios. This experiential learning helps young people understand their role in environmental protection while discovering concrete ways to reduce negative impacts. O3 strengthens European cooperation through structured intercultural exchange. By bringing together youth from six countries, we create opportunities for sharing diverse approaches to environmental challenges. Through collaborative problem-solving sessions, participants develop solutions that work across different European contexts. O4 empowers youth as community supporters during emergencies. Participants develop specific action plans for environmental emergencies, learning how to organize and lead community response efforts. This practical approach ensures young people can effectively support their communities when natural disasters occur. O5 builds comprehensive first aid competencies through hands-on training. Participants not only master essential first aid skills but also learn to create educational videos, enabling them to share their knowledge with wider youth audiences in their communities. O6 ensures lasting impact through a digital environmental action guide. By documenting 20 tested practices from across Europe, participants create practical resources that help other young people implement environmental initiatives in their communities. Through these objectives, we aim to create a multifaceted learning experience that combines physical activity, environmental education, and community engagement. This approach aligns with youth work practices that prioritize experiential learning, peer-to-peer education, and the development of transferable skills. By involving young people in both the learning process and the creation of educational resources, we foster a sense of ownership and empowerment, encouraging long-term engagement with environmental and community resilience issues.
