Objectives

The Project for “Active Youth, Strong Europe: Civic Engagement Through Sports and Social Action (AYSE)” is designed to guide youth –through non-formal education modules and sports-based initiatives- towards active citizenship, social inclusion, and community engagement. Through this project, we hope to help participants gain the skills, knowledge, and inspiration they need to become active agents of change in local communities and beyond. They will set up structured learning situations, interplay across different cultures and to ties the rationale into their personal lives. The project will provide local youths with meaningful opportunities for development, leadership and participation through the implementation of project activities. A key focus of the project will be to increase participation among young people in civic life, demonstrating the power of sport as a vehicle for social change. Too many young people are disengaged from decision-making, and unaware of the role they can play in their communities. To this end, the project will provide training, build practical experience, provide experience with respective gains and losses, offer space for collective action and other relevant skills, and will drive home the point that each individual is key in society and has the potential to initiate change. Through participation in the sport-based community initiatives, leadership exercises, and problems solving challenges, participants will gain the confidence and skillset needed to step up in their home and social circles. Another goal will be to foster inclusion and diversity, by giving groups of youth with partners from different cultural, social, and economic settings the opportunity to work together, share experiences, and confront stereotypes. The project will actively combat barriers to participating by prioritising the involvement of young people with fewer opportunities, making civic engagement within reach for everyone. Participants will have a chance to learn about diversity, mutual respect and solidarity through intercultural learning activities, conversations about social equity, and hands-on projects. This will help them to be inclusive leaders who promote equal access and representation. This will give rise to empowerment, the objective of this project to prepare the key competences for the individual and community development. Participants will learn improve communication skills, critical thinking, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities through non-formal education methods such as experiential learning, coaching, role-playing, and collaborative tasks. These skills are so relevant to today's youth who should be prepared to solve complex social problems, participate in creative discourse, and drive community-driven initiatives. AYSE you'll inspire youth to take ownership over their own learning journeys and future careers by fostering active engagement in decisions and projects. Moreover, the project aims at reinforcing a common European values and sense of solidarity among youth. The exchange will emphasize the contribution cooperation between Europeans on common challenges through shared responsibility in fostering active citizenship. You will find out about the EU role in fostering participation of youth, how you can engage with the EU institutions, find opportunities for mobility and make contributions at the EU level, etc. They will develop a sense of belonging to the European community through mutual dialogue and collaborative projects, strengthening their role as active and responsible citizens. A key feature of the project will be to ensure sustainability and long-term effects. AYSE will be a catalyst for ongoing learning, community collaboration and youthled initiatives — not a one-time event. In this way, in offering participants the basic knowledge, tools and support to embark on local projects, the exchange will continue to be beneficial beyond its official dates. Participants will be inspired to identify and undertake follow through actions, initiate sports sector-led community projects and serve as role models in their community. Their experiences will also help disseminate the project through social media, blogs, or community presentations to ensure that lessons learned will get to a wider audience. The project is in line with the foundations of non-formal education, empowerment, and participation from the standpoint of youth work practice. It offers a space in which youth can learn together in structure and agency, ownership over experiences, reflection on experiences, and leadership. A project commissioned by DK Pv and carried out by Frivillighuset Århus used the picture of youth both as a target group and as catalysts for change (in the form of peer educators) and therefore involved participants in the entire project process starting from planning and implementation to follow-up and dissemination, ensuring that young people are proactive in terms of information.
