Objectives

The Art of Saying it Right (ASR) was born out of the intense activity of HYP in the field of non-formal education. Seeing the need for training in communication and inclusion, the frequent changes in youth organizations and the moderate knowledge in supporting young people, HYP conducted a NEEDS survey in which European organisations active in the youth field with different levels of experience participated. Through focus groups and individual meetings, the needs were confirmed while highlighting the increasing use of artificial intelligence tools for the organisations’ actions, including proposal writing and the creation of workshops. In summary, the conclusions that emerged from the overall research were: -Frequent role changes and entry of new people into youth work with limited training in communication and inclusion, -High reliance on AI tools without sufficient understanding of their limitations, -Medium knowledge of supporting young people with fewer opportunities, especially those facing educational, economic, cultural and/or social barriers. Through studying these findings with the partners selected for the project, we designed ASR to respond to the NEEDS for: 1.Improving the communication skills of youth workers to create “safer spaces”, where young people, especially from marginalised backgrounds, feel safe and empowered. 2.Strengthening reflective practices, feedback mechanisms and evaluation skills to ensure inclusive educational experiences. 3. Raise awareness about the role of AI in youth work by focusing on how it can support feedback, inclusion and accessibility, while maintaining critical engagement with its use. 4. Prevent burnout of workers by equipping them with tools for reflection and emotional resilience. The LEARNING OBJECTIVES of ASR are: -Increase understanding of the importance of reflection and feedback in youth work in young organisations and new youth workers. -Develop active listening and empathetic communication skills, essential for working with young people with diverse needs. -Provide AI-based methods to enhance inclusive non-formal education and critical thinking, while avoiding over-reliance on technology. -Enhance participants' confidence in designing and implementing inclusive educational activities that promote inclusion, social responsibility and understanding. We designed a 6-day training program with 2 days of travel for 27 participants who will be trained, will enrich their perspective, will reflect on their own practices and values, will be able to provide constructive feedback that promotes the development of individuals, will have a deeper understanding of diversity and will be able to create safer and bolder spaces for open dialogue and mutual respect.
