Context and needs Organisations shape society. They contribute to society’s evolution by bringing new ideas and approaches to the community. However, many organisations in the EU do not survive beyond the initial three-year mark. According to Eurostat, 50% of new organisations fail within the first 5 years. According to the European Commission, approximately 20% of startups fail within their 1st year and 30% fail within their 2nd year. If we consider organisations that didn’t go beyond the ideation stage, the percentage rises to 70/90%. Regardless of a project's value, without proper support, young Europeans will struggle to grow their organisations to their full potential. Following the success of New Sprouts - Start Your Sustainable Organisation, which took place in November 2023, we created LevelUP. This TC came from the realisation that, however effectively youth workers created new functioning organisations through New Sprouts, most still needed ongoing, more advanced support in developing their sustainable organisations. This was reiterated during the dissemination process, where youth workers expressed the need for advanced support. In the evaluation form sent after the TC, 8 youth workers managed to successfully start their organisation, and 74% (19 out of 29) indicated they would need a follow-up project to support them in growing their projects/organisations. About the idea LevelUP focuses on helping European youth workers grow their existing projects or organisations, overcome growth challenges and take them to the next level. It allows them to reflect on their organisation, creates positive personals and organisational habits, and provides knowledge in sustainability, outreach (sales, proposal writing, and funding), and management. The TC is tailored to their specific challenges. Importantly, it provides youth workers with a safe and inspiring environment where youth workers can share personal experiences, challenges, and best practices for overcoming challenges and growing their projects/organisations. Goal and Objectives LeveUP enables youth workers to grow existing organisations and projects with sustainability and social well-being at their core. These can be ecovillages, product or service-based organisations, innovative start-ups, NGOs, training courses, or events. This is a highly experiential and collaborative TC, where we will work with real organisations and tangible case studies. Each youth worker will bring a case study: their organisation, project, or a third-party organisation they work for, and the challenges connected to it. This will enable our youth workers to actively tackle the challenges related to their organisations, and make them more economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable. The objectives of the project are the following: To create the space for 32 youth workers to work in their organisations. To live in a simulative sustainable community for 11 days, with a focus on consciously sharing water and resources. To encourage 32 youth workers to grow their organisations in today’s social, economic, and environmental context and make them more sustainable and consciously managed. To equip 32 youth workers with the necessary skills to support young people in solving key strategic challenges in their organisations. Το support youth workers to learn about self-awareness, positive habits, sustainability, leadership and management, and support others to improve their organisations. To help youth workers gain an understanding of the main managerial skills needed to run an organisation: strategy and business planning, conflict management, digital competencies, HR, presenting, sales and marketing. To understand the interconnectedness and systems thinking around sustainable projects and what sustainability means when running an organisation. To create at least 5 videos to educate others on the best practice activities to overcome certain organisational challenges. To create a community of like-minded people that support each other after the project. To create a booklet to gather the case studies produced. To strengthen cooperation between partner organisations and to provide them with ideas to evolve and become more sustainable. To create a comprehensive toolkit that will encapsulate the main challenges to organisational growth and provide a set of solutions. LevelUP allows young Europeans to learn strategic problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and resilience. Youth workers will be inspired to see the professional environment as a game, where they can make mistakes and learn from them to improve and then share ideas and solutions about common challenges. Young Europeans will be able to identify and tackle the challenges that inevitably this fast-moving economic landscape will throw their way - such as the current digital revolution - communicate and collaborate effectively with their co-workers, and create systemic change.
