According to studies published by the WMO (World Meteorological Organization), extreme weather, climate and hydrological events caused 11,778 disasters recorded in the last six decades. These extreme events have not only left a devastating environmental footprint, but have also had significant human and economic consequences. In terms of human impact, these disasters have claimed the lives of more than 2 million people, highlighting the vulnerability of communities to extreme weather conditions. In addition, the economic burden resulting from these phenomena translates into economic losses estimated at 3.9 billion euros. This colossal figure reflects not only the fragility of social and economic structures in the face of extreme weather events, but also the urgency of adopting preventive and awareness-raising measures. This proposed project arises from youth awareness, which although in many cases is accused of ecological irresponsibility, is quite the opposite, looking for new ways to keep the planet safe. Specifically, this exchange arose from the idea of one of our young people, who after seeing a mountain running challenge for people with visual impairments in which they had to collect waste together with their guide, came up with the idea that it could be a good idea as a climate awareness and inclusive proposal in response to the critical need to address these environmental and social challenges. By focusing on environmental awareness and the promotion of physical activity with young people, people with disabilities and the elderly, we aspire to forge a conscious and active generation that not only understands the interconnection between their actions and climate change, but is also empowered to generate a positive and lasting impact in their communities. For them, what we seek to develop with this exchange is: - The promotion of a deep and meaningful understanding among young people, children, adults and people with disabilities about the impacts of climate change, highlighting the intrinsic relationship between human activities and the health of the environment. - Promoting an active and healthy lifestyle among participants, encouraging regular physical activity outdoors as a direct contribution to individual and collective well-being. - Promoting teamwork, empathy and collaboration through participatory activities that involve young people, children, adults and people with disabilities in the planning and execution of actions in favor of the environment. For them, we have established a series of objectives that we divide into general and specific. Among the general objectives we would like to highlight: - Developing an educational program that raises awareness among young people, children, adults and people with disabilities about the importance of climate change, highlighting the interconnection between human activity and the health of the planet. - Encouraging regular physical activity among participants, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle as a contribution to improving individual and collective health. - Guaranteeing the accessibility and adaptability of the proposed activities to ensure the full participation of people with disabilities, promoting inclusion and equal opportunities. On the other hand, for the specific objectives we have established the following: - Plan and carry out practical ecological projects at a local level, involving participants in tangible actions such as waste management and the promotion of sustainable practices, with the aim of translating theoretical knowledge into concrete and measurable actions. - Create and facilitate inclusive physical activities, adapted to the needs of the target audience, promoting active participation in sports and exercises that strengthen the connection between personal health and the well-being of the planet. Finally, we would like to make a clarification. Throughout the project, the words “dysfunction” and “disability” will be used interchangeably, following the acceptance standards of the different regulatory entities in the field of physical, sensory and intellectual dysfunctions.
