If Europe is known for something, it is for the vast cultural diversity it contains. In addition to all the countries that make up the Union, numerous migrant communities live in this territory, each with a distinct cultural, national, and religious identity. This makes the challenge of understanding each other and learning to navigate together increasingly complex. With “Intercultural Stories”, we aim to foster a deeper understanding among different cultures, both from within and outside Europe. In the first phase, participants will share popular stories (tales, poems, songs) that have shaped the identity of their respective places of origin (Spain, Italy, France, Romania, Portugal and South America). Through this exchange, they will break down prejudices and develop greater empathy towards other cultures and traditions. Additionally, many migrants from non-European cultures will take part in the exchange, making the diversity of cultural identities even greater. In the second phase, participants will create their own narratives, incorporating the values promoted by the European Union, such as sustainability, diversity, and equality. They will blend their respective cultural backgrounds to encourage mutual understanding and empathy among different nationalities and ethnic groups. This way, we will move from multiculturalism (the coexistence of different cultures) to interculturalism (the moment when different cultures create shared cultural expressions). The “Intercultural Stories” exchange has three main objectives: -To foster empathy and understanding among different countries with highly diverse cultural, religious, and national identities through their stories. -To analyze the content of these stories with respect but also with constructive criticism, considering the European Union’s values of equality, sustainability, and diversity. -To create new intercultural and utopian narratives by embracing the variety of cultures present in the exchange.
