Objectives

Youth unemployment is reaching alarming levels, making this one of the most challenging times in history for young people entering the job market. Today's young generation faces a unique and challenging paradox. Despite the ever-growing demand for digital proficiency across various career paths, a significant proportion of youth find themselves lacking the necessary digital skills. This gap is especially noticeable when considering that many of these young individuals are well-educated and possess the specific skills the market demands. However, their inability to express and apply their knowledge due to insufficient digital literacy hinders their job prospects, effectively barring them from careers for which they are otherwise qualified. A powerful example of this challenge is highlighted by a study conducted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), which found that globally, nearly 30% of young people are neither in employment nor education or training (NEET). Many of these young individuals, despite their potential, are unable to secure jobs because they lack the digital skills that are increasingly becoming a prerequisite for most professions. This "digital gap" continues to widen as technology evolves faster than education systems can adapt. There is an interesting but not fun fact that a 2022 survey by the European Commission found that 85% of all jobs across the EU required at least a basic level of digital skills. Despite this, many European youth lack even these basic competencies, highlighting the critical need for projects like "Unlocking YOU(th) Digital Skills." Here is another Research Insight: According to a report by the World Economic Forum, by 2025, nearly 85 million jobs may be displaced by shifts in labour between humans and machines, while 97 million new roles may emerge that are more adapted to the new division of labour between humans, machines, and algorithms. Project Objectives The "Unlocking YOU(th) Digital Skills" project aims to bridge this digital gap and empower young people with the essential skills needed to succeed in the modern job market. The key objectives include: - Practical Career Guidance: Provide 40 participants with an in-depth understanding of various digital career paths and the skills required for each, enabling them to make informed career choices. - Increased Employability: Align 90% of the participants' digital skills with the current and future demands of the job market, thereby improving their chances of securing employment. - Skill Development: Participants will be equipped with essential digital competencies, ranging from basic digital literacy to more specialized skills like coding, digital marketing, and data analysis. - Best Practice Exchange: Facilitate the exchange of best digital practices among participants from different European countries, promoting cross-cultural learning and collaboration. - Teamwork and Collaboration: Foster teamwork and collaboration among all 40 participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, which is essential for intercultural understanding in today’s globalized world. - European Identity and Erasmus+ Opportunities: Enhance all 40 participants' awareness of their European identity and the vast opportunities available through the Erasmus+ program for personal and professional development. - Digital Knowledge Multipliers: Inspire 40 participants to become multipliers of digital knowledge within their local communities, thereby extending the project's impact beyond the immediate participants.
