Objectives

The climate incident known as DANA, which occurred in October 2024, has severely affected the towns surrounding València. The human and material damages have been immense: 216 fatalities, thousands of affected families, 27,600 impacted businesses (12,500 in the ground zero area), and over 53 million euros in potential losses. On a social level, more than 50% of the associations in the region (out of approximately 2,000) have been directly affected, impacting 75,000 members in the most devastated municipalities. According to a report by the Horta Sud Foundation (a key organization in data collection and analysis after the catastrophe), the most vulnerable groups—such as migrants, the Roma population, and homeless individuals—have been the hardest hit due to the structural precariousness of their environments and the lack of support networks. For all these reasons, the main goal of the project is to implement a mobility program focused on theater as a tool for emotional expression. It is aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who live in the affected municipalities, as well as young people from collaborating organizations with which Fetén has previously worked. Specifically, during a youth exchange in November 2024, visits to the affected towns were already organized to raise awareness among participants about the reality of these areas alongside members of collaborating organizations, ensuring prior familiarity with the situation. Theater is envisioned as a means to work on emotional expression, facilitating the processing of grief and the healing of those affected by the disaster. This approach aligns with the values of Fetén, which promotes community engagement and social and environmental awareness. The initiative not only addresses emotional and community recovery but also aims to strengthen the associative fabric at a critical time for the region.
