The decision to create this Youth Exchange project arose from three findings by the youth workers of the applicant Association and its partners: firstly, that young people, although they seem to live in a hyper-connected, technology-driven society, suffer from increasing levels of depression, isolation and lack of ‘real’ social contacts. Second, many young people feel partially or totally disconnected from nature, including many living in rural populations. The third is the growing phenomenon of ‘climate anxiety’ which manifests itself as emotional distress, fear of the future and feelings of powerlessness in the face of the climate crisis. Against this backdrop, the idea arose to create a project that would sensitise young people to the need to reconnect on three levels: with themselves, with others and with Nature, through different activities and in the setting of the Los Portales ecovillage, which, with its 200 hectares of land, offers a privileged space for this proposal. OBJECTIVES This project aims to respond to the need for young people to reconnect to find meaning in their lives and their place in society. By connecting with their potential, talents and energy they will feel empowered to participate in the changes that the world needs. By connecting with Nature they will understand the urgency of working to reverse climate change, protect ecosystems and reduce their impact on the environment. By connecting with each other they will feel the strength of the community to take the necessary actions for collective transformation towards a more inclusive, diverse and respectful society. Through different non-formal and informal education activities and experiences, the project proposes the following specific objectives to the participants: - develop a greater awareness of their creative power and connect with it, integrating new tools and skills for the creation of personal projects; - work towards cooperation, inclusion, respect for diversity, as well as participation in community and social transformation processes; - developing new social skills, learning the value of vulnerability and discovering how to create safe spaces for deep exchanges, connecting with oneself and the group; - increase awareness of what sustainability means and the need to adopt new attitudes and gestures to reduce our impact on the planet. These experiences prepare the young participants to one day become youth workers, providing other young people with these experiences and tools for reconnection. In this way, the movement spreads to other environments and creates networks of affinity among the population seeking to return to authentic and real relationships.
