Objectives

Crafted Stories seeks to foster the personal, cultural and creative development of young people from diverse backgrounds, bringing together writing and design to generate spaces for expression and mutual learning. The aim is to create an environment where imagination becomes a bridge to reflect, connect with other environments and explore one's own emotions. In this space, people develop useful tools for daily life and for their professional future, as self-esteem, critical thinking and intercultural collaboration are strengthened. We live in a time when fast-paced news and eye-catching headlines saturate our attention. Many people feel trapped in a cycle of fragmented information that makes it difficult to reflect and deeply understand social and environmental problems. According to data from Eurostat and Eurofound, chronic depression and the risk of suffering from it have increased among young people, while environmental anxiety is increasingly common due to concerns about phenomena such as climate change. At the same time, the immediacy of social networks can generate a feeling of helplessness and a gradual loss of the ability to analyze and discuss calmly. In our project, creative writing appears as an instrument of personal discovery and connection with the environment. For example, someone who feels anxious when seeing headlines about the climate crisis can channel their frustration by creating stories that explore imaginative solutions and slower reflections. In this way, creativity is connected to mental health, as narrative becomes a refuge to express fears and hopes. Graphic design and layout also help to capture these ideas in fanzines, providing a tangible and lasting format, beyond the volatility of the networks. We also seek to bring together young people from different literary and artistic traditions. They can share stories based on local legends, be inspired by other people's texts and discover how each community addresses urgent issues: from social justice to the conservation of the natural environment. This intercultural dialogue enriches the perspective of each participant, generating not only writing and design skills, but also empathy and a sense of belonging. The project methodology encourages teamwork to combine personal experiences and thoughts in collective narratives while emphasizing critical thinking. Participants are invited to go beyond a superficial reading of headlines, to pose hypotheses and contrast data. A creative story can transform perplexity in the face of social injustice into a powerful message that calls for action and active commitment. This reflection is transferred to emotional health, because addressing complex issues through art releases tension and fosters hope. Throughout the project sessions, participants will discover that writing is not just a hobby, but a way of intervening in the world. The ultimate goal is for each participant, after collaborating and learning from different cultures, to be able to transfer their vision to a fanzine. This format allows them to show their stories and approaches to environmental or social problems, collecting images and words that remain beyond the fleeting nature of the Internet. In doing so, they become communicators who spread messages of collaboration, inclusion and awareness.
