The members of Conflicarte and its partners have been working with young people for many years, especially in communities where there are integration challenges and unequal opportunities. All participating organisations agree that, in recent years, young people in rural and underdeveloped urban areas have faced challenges such as a lack of opportunities for social participation, the marginalisation of certain groups and the disconnection between communities with different socio-economic backgrounds. The “Bridging Horizons” youth exchange has been designed to foster solidarity, tolerance, inclusion, communication and empathy between young people from rural and underdeveloped urban environments. Through the combination of non-formal education, dance and body movement activities, participants will be empowered to act against discrimination, racism, sexism, harassment and exclusion. In this way, they will be able to become active citizens capable of generating social change in their communities. Main objectives of “Bridging Horizons” from the perspective of youth work: Promote social integration and inclusion in rural and urban environments - Dance and body movement will be used as tools of social inclusion to connect young people from different backgrounds and break down cultural and geographical barriers. - Social cohesion will be fostered in rural communities, where isolation and lack of spaces for expression can be significant challenges. Promote intercultural learning and dialogue - In a context where cultural diversity is increasing, it is essential to promote respect and understanding between young people from different realities. - Through dance and body movement, participants will explore interactions between different cultures, fostering empathy and recognition of diversity. Develop teamwork and cooperation - Non-formal education will be based on self-awareness and how it influences group dynamics and cooperation. - Throughout the project, collaboration between young people from rural and urban areas will be encouraged, reinforcing the sense of community and the ability to work as a team. Using art as a tool for awareness-raising and solidarity action - Participants will prepare a dance and body movement performance that will be presented to the local community at a public event. - This event will serve as a space for awareness-raising and intercultural dialogue, promoting inclusion and social participation in the host rural community. Transforming participants into active and engaged citizens: - Through participatory methodologies, young people will learn that active citizenship does not depend solely on formal structures, but can be fostered through creativity and community action. - Participants will be encouraged to continue their involvement in local initiatives, promoting the sustainability of the project's impact in their communities. This project will ensure that both rural and underdeveloped urban youth have access to tools that strengthen their role in society, fostering equity, inclusion and the creation of more cohesive communities.
