Objectives

The Rural Act I project NEEDS to empower young people to become agents of change within their rural communities, using expressive arts as a key tool to foster social cohesion, democratic dialogue, and the revitalization of rural areas. From the perspective of youth work, this project ADDRESSES CHALLENGES such as geographical isolation, lack of cultural and educational opportunities, and the disconnection of young people from their surroundings. One of the main objectives is to foster personal development and social inclusion among participants through non-formal education methodologies. We enhance their artistic and creative skills through practical workshops in theater, dance, music, and visual arts, promoting the use of art as a medium to address social issues. Thus, young people will develop key competencies such as empathy, intercultural communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution, strengthening their self-confidence and their ability to lead projects within their communities. Our main goal is to tackle the growing issues of individualism, confusion, and lack of empathy that affect young people's personal, professional, and social development. Through the use of arts and cultural exchange, we seek to develop their emotional intelligence and encourage critical thinking, fostering a more empathetic, supportive, and respectful society. This project acknowledges that in today's world, saturated with influences and information, young people's talents are often overlooked, and they lack a space where they can truly be themselves. For this reason, the youth exchange will not only teach participants to work and enjoy their time with peers but also provide them with tools to develop a conscious and critical participation in today's society, making them more aware of their environment's needs. Therefore, the project objectives are: Promote social inclusion and spread this philosophy through artistic activities that foster cooperation and understanding between communities. Empower young people through non-formal education, encouraging teamwork and strengthening their social and artistic skills. Create a diverse and multicultural environment, where young people can develop their sense of global citizenship, tolerance towards other cultures, respect for human rights, and intercultural understanding. Foster social values and critical thinking, helping participants reflect on current realities beyond stereotypes and ideals of perfection. Encourage foreign language learning, promoting intercultural communication and the development of linguistic competencies. These objectives align with the principles of Erasmus+ KA1, which include: Enhancing learning outcomes through non-formal and intercultural methods. Increasing intercultural awareness through experiences in a multicultural environment. Encouraging more active participation in society, especially through engagement in European peer activities. Raising participants’ awareness of the European project and the fundamental values of the European Union. As I have mentioned on several occasions, the design of this project is based on the need to strengthen principles such as empathy, solidarity, and respect among young people, responding to the challenges posed by predominant individualism, which often leads to exclusion, emotional conflicts, and social issues. Another fundamental aspect of this project is the mixed participation of young people from different backgrounds, with diverse needs and realities. This will provide a comprehensive and practical vision of different perspectives, creating a space where participants can reflect on individual and collective needs, observing and learning from experience. This methodology will be present throughout all activities, from group dynamics to the final festival activity, where young people will be exposed to the richness and complexity of their different contexts, fostering a deeper understanding and a stronger commitment to the values of inclusion, solidarity, and respect that this project promotes. With these clear objectives, we aim to promote young people’s active participation in community life, by involving them in the organization and execution of the Rural Act I festival, where they will take on an active role in revitalizing their surroundings. After the project, their sense of belonging and commitment to the development of their communities will be stronger.
