We believe that one of the true purposes of education is the transformation of individuals and society. However, in recent decades, we have been confronted with discouraging narratives that position young people merely as "consumers." At Self and Utopia, we believe that it is still possible to take action and create change, even if on a small scale. Our goal with this exchange is to embark on an inner journey where we redefine what it means to take action and reflect on the positive possibilities that the future still holds. Using methodologies such as participatory futurology and art therapy, we aim to empower young people to recognize their fears and then transform them into opportunities for action. These ideas will be captured in a collaborative fanzine, which we will reproduce and distribute among our partners. This project is particularly meaningful to us because our team is deeply interested in sustainability, the potential of community living, and art as a vehicle for mobilization—areas in which we have worked throughout our careers. However, we know we cannot do this alone. That is why we have joined forces with our partners from Georgia and Romania, who show us that, despite complex political circumstances, it is still possible to strive for a better world and create collaborative economy organizations, as well as spaces for coexistence, outdoor education, and social entrepreneurship. Additionally, in our pursuit of a more academic perspective and the creation of a supportive environment for our participants, we have partnered with ANEP (Associação Nacional de Estudantes de Psicologia). Finally, with the intention of incorporating fresh perspectives from young people who are just beginning to navigate the academic world—and to ensure pedagogical guidance—we have collaborated with Polatlı TOBB Fen Lisesi, allowing high school students to contribute their insights as well.
