Objectives

The Green and Inclusive Games for an Innovative Exchange (GIGIE) project aims to promote the use of play and creativity as effective tools to facilitate learning, social inclusion, and the emotional well-being of young people. Through a series of practical and playful activities, the project wants to stimulate young people to think critically and provide participants with innovative skills to develop creativity, improve cooperative capacity, and address daily and global challenges in a playful and constructive way. GIGIE uses a game-based approach to engage young people in an intercultural context and help them understand some 21st-century challenges, such as climate change and the ecological crisis, and find creative and innovative solutions together with the group. The problems that led to the ideation of GIGIE are linked to the social contexts in which most young people find themselves living: contexts in which human relationships are hasty and superficial, and where the teachings that come from the media are illusorily linked to consumerism, individualism, and the exploitation of natural resources. Young people find themselves overstimulated, unable to identify and manage their emotions, and often withdraw into isolation. The new generations report having little real space where they can express themselves, and very often communication between peers and between them and the outside world is expressed only through social networks. The active and proactive involvement of young people in their social context is lacking: young people complain about the scarcity of safe spaces where they can meet and contribute with their ideas and their voice to the co-creation of a reality that represents them. Often, the interactive modalities between young people are limited to the use of alcohol, drugs, acts of bullying and vandalism carried out out of boredom, leading to a deterioration in the quality of social and emotional life of young people and the communities in which they live. Young people, therefore, need to: - Express themselves, their experiences, their emotions and be listened to; - Be able to bring their voice and be more active in the social context of reference; - Interact with other young people, triggering healthy dynamics of mutual knowledge and deep relationship; - Find different ways of making a group and counteract the toxic practices linked to alcohol, drugs and excessive and compulsive use of social networks; - Manage local and global challenges of a social, cultural, economic and environmental type; - Be able to co-build a social reality that represents them. These are just some of all the existing needs that arise every day. GIGIE focuses on these needs to be able to search together with young people for the tools with which to confront these needs and thus contribute to spreading a more aware and committed youth in favor of planet Earth and society, and we believe that playfulness is a fundamental approach in addressing these needs. The project's objectives, to be achieved through the youth exchange, are: Give the young people involved the opportunity to explore complex themes (e.g. climate change) through play and creativity; Allow young people to know themselves, their emotions, to be able to express themselves in a safe environment in which they are welcomed and listened to; Deepen human relations between participants through playful dynamics, both simple and profound; Provide participants with game design skills through play and cooperation; Improve the transversal skills (communication, teamwork, problem solving, creativity, leadership) and global skills (interest in global impacts and solutions for climate change, more inclusion and consideration towards people with different ethnic origins or with economic-social disadvantages) of the participants; Help young people to devise creative solutions so that they can implement them in their own contexts.
