Objectives

The Draw Your Life project was created with the intention of establishing a safe, creative, and deeply intercultural space where young people from different countries could reflect, learn, and freely express themselves around sexual and gender diversity. The main goal was to promote tolerance, empathy, and awareness regarding the barriers and challenges faced by the LGBTIQ+ community in different sociocultural contexts. We aimed for participants not only to acquire knowledge, but also to develop a critical and committed perspective on equality, becoming agents of change within their communities. From the very beginning, the project was conceived as a transformative experience that combined artistic expression, cultural exchange, and non‑formal learning. We wanted young people to explore their creativity as a tool to better understand diversity and to communicate messages of inclusion. Painting, drawing, and other visual dynamics were used as universal languages capable of connecting people from very different backgrounds, allowing each participant to express emotions, experiences, and reflections without needing to master a specific language or academic discourse. In terms of youth work, our objective was to create a participatory environment where every young person played an active role in shaping the project. The activities were designed to foster cooperation, critical thinking, and self‑expression, integrating methodologies typical of non‑formal education: group dynamics, guided debates, introspective exercises, collaborative artistic creation, and daily reflection spaces. These tools enabled participants to develop essential social, communication, and emotional skills for intercultural coexistence. We also sought to strengthen self‑knowledge and self‑esteem, especially among young people who may never have had the opportunity to openly explore topics related to identity, sexual orientation, or discrimination. Art became a medium through which each person could tell their story, recognize their own biases, understand those of others, and build a broader and more respectful view of the world. Another fundamental objective was to foster mutual understanding among young people from countries with very different levels of social acceptance regarding sexual diversity. We wanted the cultural exchange to be real and profound, allowing participants to share their experiences without fear and to discover how diversity is lived in other territories. This intercultural dialogue made it possible to identify similarities, understand differences, and generate empathy toward realities that, in many cases, were completely unfamiliar. The project also sought to strengthen cooperation among organizations working in areas such as social inclusion, LGBTIQ+ rights, youth participation, and non‑formal education. Through the exchange of good practices, we aimed to enrich the work of each entity and lay the foundations for future collaborations that continue to promote equality and respect. Ultimately, with the implementation of Draw Your Life, we aimed to: -Raise awareness about sexual and gender diversity through a creative and accessible approach -Foster empathy and respect among young people from different cultural backgrounds -Promote non‑formal learning as a tool to combat discrimination -Support the personal, artistic, and emotional development of participants -Create artistic outputs with local impact and symbolic value -Strengthen international youth work networks committed to inclusion The project succeeded in becoming a space where creativity, diversity, and dialogue came together to build a meaningful experience capable of leaving a lasting impact on the young participants and their communities.
