Migration poses challenges that global education can help turn into opportunities with approaches rooted in the European Union’s fundamental values of human dignity, human rights, freedom, democracy and equality. Findings show that this is all the more important given the rising levels of xenophobic and populist attitudes, and conservative political parties having gained power across several EU countries (https://www.developmenteducationreview.com/issue/issue-32/global-education-and-migration-changing-european-union). The aim of this project is to build a space that provides security for young immigrants so that they can share their experiences with others, learn from each other, and get inspired by positive role models. To address xenophobia, populism, and conservative political shifts while reinforcing European values and entrepreneurship, we will have non-formal, interactive activities that foster empathy, critical thinking, and democratic engagement. For this reason, we defined the following objectives: 1) Create a safe space for sharing experiences and cultures among participants with migration background 2) Explore intercultural learning through the framework of non-formal education 3) Share their own culture and find ways how to use it as an advantage in a new setting 4) Develop the understanding of and connection with European values through debates on these topics 5) Create a guideline for their peers on how to adapt to a new culture and how to use their own culture as an entrepreneurship opportunity. These goals are backed by a strong analysis that aims to cover the needs of young migrants in the EU. In the following, we introduce the main cues of how we will cover these needs from the perspective of youth work. - Promote Social Cohesion: We will facilitate open discussions and interactions that challenge stereotypes and encourage mutual respect among participants from different cultural backgrounds. The aim is to encourage young people to recognize and celebrate diversity as a strength rather than a dividing factor. - Strengthen Democratic Values and Active Citizenship. We will equip participants with tools to critically assess political narratives, media influence, and populist rhetoric. This will encourage civic engagement by discussing real-world examples of democracy in action and how individuals can make a difference in their communities. - Enhance Empathy and Intercultural Understanding. Through the use of storytelling and personal experience sharing, we will create emotional connections between participants, fostering a deeper understanding of migration experiences. Additionally, we developed activities that place participants in different roles (e.g., simulations, role-playing) to help them see migration from multiple perspectives. - Empower Young Migrants and Strengthen Their European Identity. We support participants to see their own cultural backgrounds as assets in both personal and professional life, rather than as barriers, providing them with knowledge and confidence to navigate new societies while maintaining their cultural identity. - Provide Practical Tools for Integration and Entrepreneurship. Through workshops on how to leverage cultural identity in entrepreneurship and employment, we will equip participants with skills to adapt to new cultural environments and contribute to their communities.
