In today’s digital age, young people are constantly exposed to vast amounts of information from a wide range of sources, particularly through social media and online platforms. While this offers access to a wealth of resources and learning opportunities across multiple topics, it also comes with significant risks, especially regarding misinformation. The spread of fake news and misleading content can have devastating effects, distorting the perception of reality and hindering critical and conscious decision-making. This is especially concerning among young people, many of whom lack the skills necessary to identify reliable information online. A study by Stanford University revealed that many students struggle to evaluate the credibility of online sources, making them more vulnerable to misinformation. This vulnerability not only affects their ability to make informed decisions but can also have negative consequences on their mental health. Constant exposure to false or misleading information leads to stress, anxiety, and a distorted view of the world, as reflected in studies published in academic journals. To address this issue, the project “Real Warriors 4 Fake News” was created with the goal of providing young people with the tools needed to become critical and responsible consumers of information. Through interactive workshops, educational activities, and collaborative experiences, participants will learn how to identify reliable sources and distinguish between facts and opinions. Additionally, the project promotes media literacy and the development of critical thinking skills, essential for young people to objectively analyze and evaluate information. Throughout the project, there will also be a focus on raising awareness about the social, political, and personal consequences of misinformation. The aim is for young people to not only become more cautious when consuming digital content but also to become responsible information creators, fostering a more ethical and healthy information ecosystem. The project aligns with the Erasmus+ program and its Youth Exchanges, which seek to promote non-formal learning, intercultural understanding, and active participation of young people in society. Using participatory methodologies such as debates, role-playing games, and collaborative activities, participants will develop key skills such as effective communication, teamwork, and critical thinking, all essential competencies in today’s world. Furthermore, the project encourages active participation in both local and international communities, raising awareness among young people about their role as change agents in the fight against fake news. This approach not only seeks to improve their ability to discern reliable information but also to help them become more active and engaged citizens committed to promoting truthful and responsible information. “Real Warriors 4 Fake News” not only addresses an urgent need for media literacy but also reinforces the objectives of the Erasmus+ program by promoting inclusion, youth participation, and the development of key competencies. By the end of the project, participants will be better equipped to tackle the challenges of the digital world, capable of identifying fake news and contributing to the well-being of their communities by creating and sharing responsible and ethical content.
