Objectives

The ‘Sea saves yoUr Planet’ project is the response of all partner organisations to the reality of the level of seabed pollution, coral deterioration and lack of environmental awareness that local young people will soon have to face in their communities. The main objective of the project is to raise awareness about seabed pollution and its consequences as well as to promote the creation of networks fighting for the same goals. All partners, youth organisations and NGOs from Greece, Lebanon, Poland, Estonia and Spain, have observed that young people lack the knowledge, skills and tools to understand and deal with the environmental problems they face, to a greater or lesser extent, in their communities and in their daily lives. As a result, they do not actively participate in their local communities and do not engage in social action that could have a positive environmental impact. The team gathered observations and knowledge from our partner organisations and, by using the problem-solving tree method, we found our common needs that we will address with this project. The specific objectives of this project are to increase young people's awareness of their influence on environmental and seabed pollution, to help them to express the issues in their communities, to gain a better understanding of their origins, to help participants to express themselves publicly with more confidence, to open their minds to other issues of interest and to create alliances with people from different places, ideas and cultures. To support the participants in finding their enormous potential that they are sometimes not yet able to see and to encourage them to express their opinion and take action along with their social values. By implementing this project, we hope to support them on this not only environmental, but also personal learning path, boost their own potential, as well as empower them to become proactive members of society. Our aim is to provide them with tools to set personal and social goals and to realise their inner motivation and potential which will enable them to become more aware of nature, the environment, their own influence on it and to disseminate what they learn, a social approach, realistic and adapted to the changing times we live in. Through dynamic activities in nature, personal reflections and recognition of the learning process, it is expected to achieve the project objectives, at the same time creating a safe space for participants to exchange views and opinions in an intercultural and multilingual environment, which, in turn, will increase participants' awareness of diverse cultures and different perspectives on the project theme and other interests that they will share with each other and the facilitators themselves.
