Across Europe, youth workers face growing challenges in supporting the mental well-being of young people. Despite increasing awareness of mental health issues, many youth organizations lack the necessary tools, knowledge, and strategies to address them effectively. According to UNICEF, approximately nine million adolescents aged 10 to 19 in Europe live with mental disorders, with anxiety and depression being the most common. However, mental health remains a low priority in many youth organizations, leaving both young people and youth workers without adequate support or structured spaces to openly discuss and manage mental health challenges. The stigma surrounding mental health, combined with a lack of awareness and training, continues to prevent youth organizations from addressing these issues, leading to stress, frustration, and emotional exhaustion among young people and youth workers alike. The 'Youth Work 4 Mental Health' project aims to make mental health a priority for youth organizations, breaking the silence and stigma around the topic. Many youth workers lack the training to initiate discussions on mental well-being, and organizations often fail to integrate mental health support into their activities. The project will create sustainable change in how mental health is addressed by equipping youth organizations with structured approaches, resources, and professional development. This initiative will empower youth workers to create more open, inclusive, and supportive environments for young people. Objectives: - Raise awareness about the importance of mental health for both young people and youth workers. - Share best practices from participating countries to improve mental health awareness and well-being in youth organizations. - Enhance the skills of youth workers so they can initiate and guide discussions on mental health with young people. - Encourage youth organizations to reflect on their approaches and develop safe spaces where mental health discussions are welcomed. - Support the development of innovative ideas by allowing youth workers to create new projects that address mental health, stress, and emotional well-being. - Host ‘Mental Health Elaborated’ discussions in each participating country, both online and offline, to engage young people in conversations about mental well-being. Publish a 'Mental Health Good Practices handbook' to provide organizations with practical strategies for promoting mental health awareness. By prioritizing mental health, this project will equip youth workers with the tools to support young people effectively while fostering a culture of openness, understanding, and proactive engagement within youth organizations.
