The core idea of this project is to leverage storytelling as a powerful tool for inclusion, diversity, and emotional well-being, enabling youth workers to better support youth from diverse backgrounds, including those at risk of social exclusion or dealing with emotional fragilities. Youth across Europe face growing challenges related to cultural integration, marginalization, and mental health. These challenges often stem from societal barriers, discrimination, or the stigma surrounding emotional vulnerabilities. For youth workers, supporting young people in navigating these challenges requires innovative and empathetic tools to foster self-expression, intercultural understanding, and personal growth. The necessity for this project is underscored by several accredited sources highlighting the challenges faced by European youth, particularly concerning mental health, social inclusion, and the pivotal role of youth work: 1. Mental health challenges among European Youth: o The European Parliamentary Research Service estimates that over 84 million people in the EU are struggling with mental health problems, with young people being significantly affected. o A report by the WHO indicates a high and increasing rate of mental and behavioural health problems among adolescents in the European Region. 2. Social exclusion and the role of Youth Work: o The EU Youth Strategy recognizes the relevance of youth work in mitigating the effects of social exclusion among young people. o The European Commission's report on youth work emphasizes its contribution to addressing challenges faced by young people, particularly in transitions from education to employment. 3. Inclusion and diversity strategies: o The Erasmus+ Inclusion and Diversity Strategy highlights the increasing number of young people facing discrimination, social exclusion, and poverty, emphasizing the need for inclusive measures. o The European Commission's initiatives stress the importance of youth work in promoting social inclusion and reducing inequalities, especially during times of crisis. These sources collectively highlight the pressing need for projects that address mental health challenges, promote social inclusion, and enhance the capacities of youth workers to support young people across Europe. Storytelling—a universal form of communication—is a particularly impactful method to address these needs. It allows individuals to articulate emotions, foster empathy, and find common ground across diverse identities and experiences. For youth at risk of exclusion or those navigating emotional struggles, storytelling becomes not just a medium of expression, but a pathway toward healing, empowerment, and belonging. This project will leave a lasting impact on youth workers, enabling them to foster inclusion, promote resilience, and celebrate the unique stories of the youth they serve . Objectives of the Project: 1. Provide youth workers with storytelling methodologies (e.g., the Hero’s Journey, symbolic tools like Tarot) to help youth articulate their experiences, develop self-awareness, and connect with others. 2. Equip youth workers with tools to encourage youth to explore and express emotions in a safe and constructive way, reducing stigma and promoting mental well-being. 3. Use storytelling as a vehicle to highlight commonalities across cultures, dismantle stereotypes, and foster mutual understanding among diverse youth groups. 4. Train youth youth workers in using simple and accessible digital tools, such as Canva, to create compelling stories that amplify youth voices and ensure inclusivity. 5. Enable youth workers to support young people in reclaiming their narratives, building confidence, and fostering a sense of belonging within their communities. 6. Strengthen the capacity of NGOs in the international field, enhance the quality of youth work, and foster mutual support among organizations. Specific objectives from the perspective of Youth Work practice 1. Develop professional competences: Improve youth workers’ facilitation skills, enabling them to guide young people in using storytelling as a means of self-expression and connection. 2. Foster peer learning and collaboration: Create opportunities for youth workers to exchange practices and collaborate across borders, inspiring innovative approaches to youth engagement. 3. Address barriers in Youth Work: Provide practical tools to overcome challenges in reaching and supporting young people who face exclusion, emotional difficulties, or cultural barriers. 4. Sustainability in practice: Embed the outcomes of the training into youth workers’ daily practices, ensuring long-term impact and the ongoing application of inclusive, creative methodologies. 5. Amplify impact: Encourage youth workers to act as multipliers, disseminating the tools and methods learned during the project within their organizations and local communities.
