Objectives

By implementing the Fake Reality Challenge, we aim to transform youth work by providing youth workers with practical tools and methodologies to address disinformation, strengthen critical thinking, and improve media literacy among the young people they work with. Our goal is not only for participants to acquire knowledge about how fake news spreads and how social media manipulation works but also to equip them with the skills to effectively transmit these learnings within their organizations and communities. From the perspective of youth work, we want to integrate media literacy as a core element in youth education practices, ensuring that youth workers can detect and counteract disinformation in their professional environment. This involves providing them with fact-checking tools, strategies for responsible digital communication, and interactive activities that they can replicate in their programs with young people. One of our main objectives is to make youth work more innovative and adapted to the current digital reality. We aim for participants to incorporate new methodologies, such as using social media for education, gamifying the teaching of critical thinking, and analyzing viral content to raise awareness about the risks of disinformation. With this, we intend for youth workers not only to train young people in identifying fake news but also to help them develop a healthier relationship with digital content. We also want to enhance the impact of youth organizations, strengthening their capacity to implement media literacy programs in a structured and sustainable way. Through the exchange of best practices among partners, we will facilitate the creation of shared resources, methodological guides, and dissemination strategies that enable organizations to integrate this approach into their regular youth work. Finally, we seek to promote active participation and social engagement among young people by empowering them in the digital era. By equipping youth workers with the right tools, we will ensure that the young people they work with become more informed and critical citizens, capable of analyzing and questioning the information they consume and share. With this approach, the Fake Reality Challenge will contribute not only to improving digital education but also to strengthening democratic resilience and social cohesion in the communities where the participating organizations operate.
