Objectives

The project is an intensive 5-day Training Course focused on non-formal education tools for comprehensive sexuality education, from which a toolkit will emerge, followed by local pilots of the tools developed. Our primary aim is to facilitate cooperation among organizations and bring together youth workers, facilitators, and educators from diverse national and cultural backgrounds, including those already working on sexual education and those who are not yet involved but wish to start. The focus is on bridging the gap between participants from countries where discussing sexuality remains taboo and those from regions with more advanced sexual education systems, fostering knowledge exchange and mutual learning across different contexts. In many cases, the organizations involved in this project serve as primary points of contact for young people seeking reliable information on a range of topics. The trusted relationships developed in informal settings create an environment where youth feel more comfortable discussing sensitive and often taboo topics, such as sexual education. This trust is key, as traditional educational settings may not always provide the supportive and open spaces needed to explore these subjects in depth. The focus of our project is designed to offer educational and professional development through an intensive Training Course that targets the diverse challenges youth workers face in dealing with topics such as sexual health, gender identity, consent, and inclusivity. By engaging in this training and then testing the newly acquired tools in local settings, the exchange of non-formal education tools, best practices, and experiences across different cultural contexts will ensure that participants will improve the quality of their professional practice in a way that is both culturally relevant and inclusive. Moreover, the toolkit as a tangible outcome will ensure the knowledge gathered is shared across youth work practitioners. Thus, this project offers an inclusive and socially responsive approach to sexual education from the practice of youth work. Our objectives are: //Promote healthy discussions on sexuality: Facilitate open and informed discussions about sexuality to normalize these conversations and reduce stigma, empowering participants to engage in healthy dialogue with the youth they work with and to discuss sexual education, addressing societal taboos, and fostering respect for diversity. //Promote menstrual health awareness: Address the specific challenges faced by people who menstruate, including societal taboos and access to menstrual health resources, promoting sustainable approaches, such as the use of eco-friendly menstrual products, to link education with environmental responsibility. //Raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ challenges: By fostering a greater understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community, youth workers will be able to create more inclusive and safe spaces. Participants will explore how sexual education can break stigmas and promote inclusion for marginalized groups, including the LGBTQIA+ community. //Share best practices and tools: Facilitate the exchange of successful practices and non-formal educational tools from different countries and organizations, enriching the knowledge and effectiveness of sexual education programs. The exchange of digital tools, gamified resources, and reliable online sources for sexual education will enhance participants' ability to deliver effective programs. These digital elements ensure accessibility and foster innovation in how sensitive topics are addressed. Furthermore, we focus on providing tools and knowledge for addressing challenges in the field of sexual education linked to cultural differences, inaccessible education on the topic, and discrimination. //Improve organizational approaches to sexual education: By creating a practical toolkit that can be used by all participating organizations, as well as others, and integrating it into practice by testing these tools in their local contexts with the youth groups they work with, organizations can better address the sexual education needs of young people. //Create an international network of youth workers: Encourage cultural exchange and mutual learning among participants from diverse backgrounds, each bringing scientific and social knowledge on the topic of sexuality. By actively targeting youth workers and organizations supporting individuals facing educational, cultural, and discriminatory barriers, the project ensures broader representation and participation. Moreover, by engaging participants in collaborative and cross-cultural activities, the project emphasizes the importance of youth workers as active contributors to democratic values such as gender justice, social cohesion, and intercultural dialogue. The acquired skills will empower them to implement changes in their local communities and inspire active participation in broader European initiatives.
