The DiscoverEU inclusion programme aims to empower young people with fewer opportunities by offering them the chance to explore Europe, broaden their horizons and discover new opportunities for personal and professional growth. Through ‘ROOTS AND WINGS’, we aim to reduce the gap in access to non-formal education and youth mobility, ensuring that both young people from rural areas and those with a migrant background can learn about and benefit from European programmes. Our objectives are based on promoting the autonomy and confidence of these young people, accompanying them so that they can get out of their comfort zone while developing useful skills in their daily life and in the future. Through different intercultural activities, self-management activities such as 24h alone, cultural visits in Paris or Brussels or meetings with different associations such as in Bologna, we can promote teamwork, positive leadership, the ability to adapt and make decisions in different situations. We also want the whole process to bring them closer to Europe, fostering their identity as European citizens, working on values, learning first-hand about the opportunities and institutions of the European Union. To add more moments where we work based on the objectives of the project we have reflections and they will write postcards at each stop to sign up for the future and express in a group and private way their emotional balance during the trip promoting expression and self-knowledge. We will also work on a very important objective such as empowerment from minute one of the project, being a fundamental part of the decision making process when taking transport, making reservations and scheduling logistical details, increasing this process with the use of rotating roles such as communicator, guide, carer, material, etc. Linked to this, we always work from the perspective of participation, making visible the importance and the positive impact that community and united work generates. In addition, two of the fundamental pillars of the project are inclusion and diversity. During all phases we generate a shared learning space. Through the sharing of emotions, experiences and moments we create a safe space where we break the barriers of stereotypes and generate connections of trust and collaborative growth. On the other hand, we want to encourage their curiosity and desire for community participation and active involvement in their local environments, so that the impact can be long-lasting and not just a one-off trip. Finally, we are committed to responsible and sustainable mobility, making environmental impact visible and promoting a sustainable and ecological style of tourism. With all this combination of learning, travelling, exploring, exposing ourselves to situations, making choices and developing ourselves, Discover EU inclusion will be a unique opportunity that will transform and inspire young people with fewer opportunities. For them to see that they can continue to discover, grow and build the future that will be their present in a more inclusive and connected way with Europe. Seeking to break those limits they have and taking this opportunity as a turning point and new doors they can open. For we do not lose our roots if we fly and we cannot fly without our roots.
