Objectives

We want to carry out the project because of the urgent need to involve young people in understanding and valuing democracy at a time of growing disillusionment with democratic systems. Recent surveys, such as the one conducted by 40dB. for El País and SER, reveal alarming trends among Spanish youth: 26% of young men prefer authoritarianism in certain circumstances, while almost 70% believe that democracy in Spain is deteriorating. This disconnect with democratic values is coupled with a widespread feeling among young people that their voices are not represented in politics and that the system does not respond to their needs. This project aims to address several issues: - Disenchantment with democracy: Many young people are increasingly skeptical about the efficacy of democratic systems and are open to alternatives, including authoritarian regimes. This mentality threatens the stability of democratic governance in the future. - Lack of education about democracy: young people often lack a comprehensive understanding of the history of democracy, its evolution and its importance for individual freedoms and societal stability. - Inclusion and participation: Greater inclusion of youth voices in democratic processes is needed to help them feel more engaged and represented. Project objectives: Reinforce democratic values among young people: Through educational podcasts and engaging content, the project will provide young people with a historical understanding of democracy, tracing its development from ancient Greece to today's Europe. The goal is to foster a sense of belonging and appreciation for democratic principles. 2. Combat disillusionment and misinformation: By presenting the complexities and strengths of democracy in an accessible way, we aim to challenge the growing support for authoritarianism among young people and demonstrate how democracy, despite its flaws, remains the most effective system for guaranteeing freedoms and rights. 3. Promote active citizenship: The project will not only educate, but also encourage the participation of young people in democratic processes, providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to become informed and active citizens in their communities and in Europe.
