Objectives

The goal of the youth exchanges and the cooperation between the participating groups is to exchange experiences about the opportunities for young people to act and influence, especially in rural areas. There are four youth groups from two different countries involved, who are active in rural development and decision-making through local Leader groups in various ways: Keskipiste-Leader and Rieska-Leader from Finland, and the Leipziger-Muldenland and Wesermünde-Süd regions from Germany. The cooperation was decided to be implemented as two different youth exchange projects. The aim of the cooperation is to exchange experiences about the opportunities for young people to act and influence, especially in rural areas. Through joint activities, we want to learn from each other how young people can be active and influence their own matters in rural areas, participate in decision-making, implement their own projects, or organize events. In the first project, the main themes included youth leisure activities, youth council activities, Youth Leader activities, and funding. For this second project, the chosen theme is culture in rural areas. The young people will explore what culture means in different ways in Finland and Germany, and how it is reflected in their daily lives. Culture is not only about traditional arts (music, theater, food, museums) but also about everyday culture (e.g., leisure activities), social culture (how we interact together), 'environmental culture' (how we relate to nature), or the culture of entrepreneurship. The young people will investigate how local conditions have influenced our ways of acting or expressing ourselves. The project will specifically address the following themes: Traditional culture, cultural heritage, leisure activities – everyday culture, the culture of entrepreneurship: encouraging and supporting young people to start their own businesses, social interaction, customs, nature and the environment.
