The Youth Exchange project “Roots & Reefs : Fit for Nature” brings together 25 young people aged 18-30 from Guadeloupe (France), Curaçao (the Kingdom of the Netherlands), and Georgia, along with two group leaders per country. The project includes an online preparatory meeting, the 8-day Youth Exchange in Curaçao, and follow-up activities. The project is aimed to reach the following objectives: 1. Explore the interconnectedness of the environment and healthy lifestyles; 2. Build on existing knowledge and develop new practical skills in environmental protection and healthy living through Non-Formal Learning tools; 3. Increase the active participation of young people in local environmental and health- related topics; 4. Reach out to broader communities with awareness-raising activities and involve them in activities that connect health and the environment. The project is based on non-formal learning methods and is implemented by young people and with young people. Activities of the project promote youth initiative, autonomy, community engagement and leadership. Skills gained by young people help them solve joint problems found in their communities but also prepare them for a more active life, careers, increased skills, competences, better perception of their individuality but at the same time, adopting a more empathetic and informed approach towards diversity. The project sets young people up for a positive experience and success in an increasingly intercultural society and equips them with tools to be active contributors to community life.
