Objectives

We aimed to address the issue of marine pollution and the protection of coastal and maritime ecosystems by empowering young people to become more aware, active and responsible in relation to environmental challenges. The project focused on connecting young people from island, coastal and European communities facing similar ecological concerns, such as plastic pollution, unsustainable tourism, waste management and threats to marine biodiversity. The main objectives of the project were: To provide young participants with ecological knowledge and practical conservation skills related to marine pollution, sustainable tourism and coastal protection. To promote intercultural understanding and cooperation between young people from France/Guadeloupe, Latvia, Portugal/Azores, Spain/Tenerife and Malta. To develop participants’ communication, teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills through non-formal learning methods. To encourage young people to become active citizens and environmental advocates in their local communities. To support participants with fewer opportunities, especially those facing geographical, economic or educational barriers, by giving them access to an international learning experience. To create practical project results, including awareness-raising materials, videos, reflections and the EcoWave Action Plan, which participants could use for dissemination and follow-up activities after the exchange.
