Objectives

The project "#YUM - Youth Uniting Minds - Embracing Diversity through Meals" was born from a collective desire among seven European partner organizations to combat rising social fragmentation, xenophobia, and the "echo-chamber" effect among youth. Our core belief was that the dining table is the most ancient and effective site for human connection. We aimed to use gastronomy as a non-formal pedagogical tool to foster intercultural dialogue, inclusion, and mutual understanding. Specifically, our objectives were to: 1) Empower 42 young people to explore their own and others' cultural identities through food heritage; 2) Promote the inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities by providing a collaborative environment that transcends language barriers; 3) Increase awareness of sustainable food systems and "Zero-Waste" practices; and 4) Enhance digital and communication competences by documenting the process into a "Digital Intercultural Cookbook." By achieving these, we sought to strengthen the participants' sense of European citizenship and shared values.
