Objectives

The ‘’Eat Wise, Live Well’’ Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project was developed by young people from France, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, and North Macedonia, who shared a common challenge of dealing with eating problems and mindfulness issues. Through their experiences, they recognized the growing importance of addressing unhealthy eating habits, misconceptions about diets, and the pressures of modern lifestyles that impact mental and physical well-being. According to Eurostat (2022), over 50% of the population in these partner countries is either overweight or obese, with young people being disproportionately affected. Additionally, studies show a rise in mental health concerns related to body image and food relationships. These statistics highlight an urgent need to educate and support young people in developing sustainable, mindful, and healthy eating practices. The project aims to tackle two interconnected issues: poor dietary habits and the negative mental health impacts of societal pressures on body image and food consumption. Young people in Europe are increasingly exposed to fast food, processed meals, and harmful dieting trends. In France, for instance, 16% of young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are classified as overweight (Eurostat, 2022). In Spain, nearly 40% of children and adolescents consume unhealthy snacks daily, contributing to long-term health risks (Eurostat, 2021). The situation is similar in Italy and Bulgaria, where traditional, nutritious diets are being replaced by processed and calorie-dense foods. North Macedonia reports one of the highest rates of obesity among youth in the Balkans (Eurostat, 2022). These trends emphasize the urgent need to promote balanced nutrition and mindfulness as tools for addressing these challenges. Project Objectives The overarching goal of this project is to raise awareness about healthy food practices, sustainable eating, and mindful living. Specifically, the project will: 1. Educate participants about the principles of balanced nutrition, including reading food labels, understanding portion sizes, and the benefits of whole foods. 2. Promote sustainable and mindful eating habits, such as reducing food waste and choosing local, seasonal ingredients to benefit both health and the environment. 3. Address misconceptions about diets and body image, helping participants shift away from harmful trends and develop a positive relationship with food. 4. Empower participants with practical skills, such as budgeting, meal planning, and cooking nutritious meals. 5. Foster a sense of community, enabling participants to share their experiences and support one another in maintaining healthier lifestyles.
