The Young People Committed to the Oceans (JEO) project is supported by the Les Petits Débrouillards PACA NGO in partnership with the Moroccan association of Petits Débrouillards, the AYEN association (Algeria), the Controvento association (Italy) and the Petits Débrouillards from Belgium. The aim of the project is to encourage the engagement of young people on issues of ecological transition and more particularly on the protection of the ocean. The project partners organize a youth meeting on ocean issues from June 6 to 12, 2025 in Nice on the sidelines of the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC) and the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC). The mobilized groups will be supported to form the most reasoned and thoughtful opinion possible on issues related to the ocean and the climate through meetings and working time with resource people. Their active participation in UNOC will provide knowledge on the organization of major global political events. The organization of activities to disseminate the project and its contents at the local level following the project is an integral part of the project for young people who will be entrusted with the mission of “ambassador of the ocean”. In terms of working with young people, the partners come from popular education: they therefore highlight non-formal learning and education and collective work partly supported by peers. The development of young people's transversal and intercultural skills will allow them to have a more global vision of the theme. Active participation is the very essence of the project during the exchange with the animation, reporting, advocacy missions and after the meeting with the implementation of dissemination and promotion actions.
