Objectives

Following their mobility experience in Collado Villalba in July 2024, seven young people from Bègles expressed the wish to continue the European dynamic by hosting Spanish young people in their own region. Their intention was to compare the effects of climate change in two different geographical contexts and raise awareness among their peers about the specific environmental challenges faced in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. We supported this initiative by designing a project aligned with Erasmus+ priorities, particularly in the areas of environmental sustainability, inclusion, and active citizenship. The project pursued several complementary objectives: O1. Raising awareness of climate and environmental challenges (SDGs 13 and 12) The project aimed to enable young people to analyse the concrete impacts of climate change in both urban (Bordeaux Métropole) and coastal (Soulac-sur-Mer) environments, particularly through the observation of coastal erosion and structural vulnerabilities linked to drought episodes. The intervention of a forestry engineer from the National Forestry Office (ONF) provided scientific expertise and insight into the public policies implemented to address these challenges. The objective was to encourage participants to reflect on their individual and collective behaviours and to identify practical actions supporting a fair socio-ecological transition. 02. Promoting gender equality and preventing gender-based violence (SDG 5) In cooperation with the CIDFF (Information Centre on Women’s and Families’ Rights) of Gironde, young participants explored mechanisms of discrimination and violence, gender stereotypes, and prevention strategies. This activity aimed to strengthen their critical thinking skills, social awareness, and civic responsibility in relation to contemporary societal issues. 03. Developing key competences through non-formal education Through debates, thematic workshops, binational group work, and intercultural evenings co-designed with the Maison de l’Europe des Landes – WIPSEE, the project fostered the development of: intercultural competences communication in a foreign language teamwork and cooperation autonomy and initiative self-confidence The intercultural dimension was embedded throughout the mobility, encouraging openness, mutual understanding of different legal and cultural frameworks, and the deconstruction of stereotypes. 04. Strengthening European citizenship and engagement The exchange, co-organised with the Youth Department of the City of Collado Villalba, brought together 32 young participants from the two twin towns from 2 to 11 July 2025. The project was part of a long-term cooperation framework and aimed to make European values tangible in practice: democracy, equality, respect, and solidarity. Special attention was given to the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, according to jointly defined criteria between partners. 05. Ensuring a safe and age-appropriate educational framework Given that participants were minors, the programme was carefully designed to maintain a balanced structure between thematic workshops, sports activities, and cultural discoveries, fostering learning, group cohesion, and overall well-being.
