Objectives

This project aims to allow participants of all genders, from different socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, to participate in European mobility and give them the confidence and the understanding they need to feel secure in their European identity and their ability to contribute to civic life, on a local or even national or European scale. This Youth Exchange is an entry point for young people to develop new initiatives and perhaps take part in more Erasmus+ or other European mobility schemes. Like all youth projects, the goal of this Youth Exchange is to empower young people to become actors of their lives and guide them towards autonomy. Indeed, the workshops and activities offered throughout aim to give participants not only the practical tools but a mindset that will enable them to be more proactive in their communities and speak up for their beliefs, using forms of dialogue that are constructive and positive. The wish of both partners is that young people may be able to grow and learn through this project but also identify how they’ve done so and be able to verbalise it and highlight it, in ways that can benefit other areas of their lives, such as employment or education. Learning to learn is a crucial skill, that will feed into many other aspect of young people's lives. This project aims to provide a quality learning opportunity and teach participants about the methods and outcomes of non-formal education, in a practical and measurable way. They can be comfortable to participate, lead and experiment in an environment that they have helped design. Furthermore, it provides young people with an opportunity to practise debate skills in a safe intercultural setting, where their opinions are valued and appreciated. The topic of youth participation and engagement also aims to inspire and better equip young people to become active citizens in their local communities and apply the organisational skills they've acquired to their own ideas, to better their lives and those of their peers. The goal is that this project will be a stepping stone for participants to create more projects, both on a local and European scale, to foster a sense of community and motivate themselves and others to be active and engaged, wether in the form of small community organising, activism on specific issues or creating more opportunities for themselves and other young people. The project also hopes to achieve a successful collaboration between Le Corner and Carpe Diem, in order to establish a solid partnership that can allow future projects to grow. It is also a way to analyse best practices between the two organisations and use the project to self-reflect and implement new methods and tools. Also, considering the emphasis the project places on youth participation and, in particular, volunteering, it’s a way to show young people the value that can be found in volunteering and how the skills and qualities they develop can be greatly beneficial for them in the future. This is especially true for participants with fewer education opportunities, as it gives them more experience and offers them a different pathway into pursuing their career or education goals. It is also a great opportunity for both organisations to think about how they work with volunteers in their daily activities and how they can be more valued and put forward in the future, based on the input from participants, putting youth at the heart of our practices.
