Press Start 10 (PS10) engages youth and partner organisations from four countries in a two-week program that links cross-cultural dialogue, personal growth, and social entrepreneurship. The first week will take place in Paris and the second in Tunis. PS10 is the 10th year of growing a model designed by YES Akademia (YAKA). With PS10, we aim to reach a broad population of youth spanning Europe and the Maghreb. As in past Press Start projects, we aim to empower youth with self-confidence and motivation to engage as active citizens and to give them the tools to realise a dream by mounting socially responsible initiatives. We hope that PS10 youth become more aware of and embrace cultural differences and different points of view. With youth from three European countries and Tunisia, we hope to see develop a stronger knowledge and appreciation of European values. The youth from Tunisia will learn about cultures distinct to each European country as well as their common values. The participants from France, Belgium and Italy will grow when explaining their individual cultures and become more aware of the values they share as members of the European Union. Our overall aim is to promote inclusion, understanding and acceptance of differences as a contribution to a stronger, innovative and resilient society. To achieve these goals, PS10 is a collaboration of YAKA with partners Scan-R (Belgium), ARCI (Italy) and Jeunes Volontaires (Tunisia). With them, PS10 is opening to a new population of youth, reaching for the first time beyond France to other European countries. Working with PS10’s partners expands YAKA’s network of organizations that share a commitment to supporting youth and allows an exchange among the four organisations of ideas and practices in youth work internationally. Using nonformal teaching methods, PS10 youth participants will attend workshops with discussions and activities that require reflection and introspection. The participants will be assured that PS10 is a “safe space” for self-expression and mutual respect and support. This will help them begin the program acknowledging their strengths as well as their weakness, understanding important values, and building useful emotional tools to meet challenges. These workshops and activities will then be followed and integrated into training workshops and visits that supplement the training on the basics of entrepreneurships and the “ESS” sector. With new knowledge and competences, PS10 participants will be ready to launch personal initiatives that have a positive impact on sustainable development and social solidarity. PS10 youth will live, share meals, travel, work and learn together as a group for two intensive weeks in Paris and then in Tunis. These shared experiences will build strong solidarity in the multinational group as well as allow for strong individual bonds across borders that have shown to last many years, if not a lifetime.
