Objectives

Rooting aims to empower youth workers with the skills, knowledge, and methodologies needed to address critical challenges in youth work: eco-anxiety and mental health struggles born from feeling disconnected from our environment. By equipping youth workers with innovative tools and fostering intercultural collaboration, the project will enhance the quality, inclusivity, and sustainability of youth work practices across Europe. From the perspective of youth work practice, Rooting has the following objectives: 1. Addressing eco-anxiety and climate emotions • Provide youth workers with the tools and strategies to support young people experiencing eco-anxiety, solastalgia, and other climate-related emotions. • Help youth workers understand the interconnectedness of mental health and environmental challenges, enabling them to promote emotional resilience and well-being among young people. 2. Fostering sustainability and nature connection • Promote sustainable practices and nature-based learning in youth work, empowering youth workers to integrate ecological awareness into their daily activities. • Enable participants to explore the therapeutic benefits of connecting with nature and to incorporate these practices into their work with young people. 3. Enhancing youth work methodologies • Introduce youth workers to embodied and artistic practices, such as mindfulness, movement, and a performance co-creation, as innovative approaches to engaging young people and supporting their mental health, connection to the environment, creativity and active participation. • Develop and share participatory methodologies that foster emotional regulation, self-expression through active and creation means, and collaboration. 4. Promoting inclusivity and addressing barriers • Focus on supporting youth workers and young people facing barriers to participation, including mental health challenges, geographical obstacles, economic difficulties, and cultural differences. • Equip youth workers with inclusive practices that foster access, diversity, and equity in youth work settings. 5. Strengthening professional development • Provide participants with experiential learning opportunities to enhance their competencies, including facilitation, peer learning, and advocacy skills. • Encourage youth workers to reflect on their own emotional resilience and well-being, helping them to lead by example in their interactions with young people. 6. Building collaboration and networks • Foster intercultural dialogue and transnational collaboration among youth workers from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. • Create a sustainable network of youth workers and organizations committed to addressing eco-anxiety, mental health, and sustainability in their communities.
