The project "WAKA - In Nature We Believe" aims to empower youth workers living and working in European Ecovillages and Communities by equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to facilitate meaningful nature-based experiences for the young people they work with. The central objective is to empower youth workers, providing them with the tools, confidence and understanding to engage young people with nature and create impactful, immersive experiences. By participating in practical workshops, experiential learning, and spending time in nature, youth workers will enhance their facilitation skills and deepen their ability to connect young people to the natural world in ways that promote well-being and resilience. WAKA also seeks to facilitate nature-based learning, enabling youth workers to design and lead outdoor activities or indoor sessions inspired by nature. This will help young people develop a stronger connection, appreciation, and responsibility towards the environment, fostering ecological awareness and inspiring sustainable behaviors. A key goal is to promote environmental awareness and action, empowering youth workers to inspire the younger generation to understand and act on the pressing environmental challenges they will face, particularly as climate change continues to impact future generations. Through informal and experiential learning, youth workers will gain the necessary resources to guide young people in exploring environmental issues, identifying local needs, and developing solutions that promote sustainability. Another significant objective is to strengthen community and social cohesion by creating inclusive, supportive environments where young people feel valued and empowered. The project brings together youth workers from diverse backgrounds, fostering understanding, tolerance, and collaboration. These shared nature experiences will help build strong, connected communities. Additionally, WAKA aims to cultivate leadership and empowerment, supporting youth workers in developing leadership skills that they can pass on to young people. By reflecting on group dynamics, nature metaphors, and active facilitation practice, youth workers will be better equipped to guide young people in becoming confident, engaged leaders who advocate for sustainability and drive meaningful change. In summary, "WAKA - In Nature We Believe" leverages the power of nature to empower youth workers, equipping them with the skills and resources to facilitate transformative nature-based experiences for young people. Through these efforts, the project seeks to promote environmental stewardship, foster social cohesion, and cultivate leadership, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
