“Emotional education” is born out of the need to help youth workers and educators developing emotional competencies and skills to support themselves and youngsters in navigating the complexity of current times. European society is undergoing far reaching changes: growing ethnic diversity, increasing secularization, the rise of online media and technology, globalization, individualism and radicalization are some of them. While this highly impacts the lives of all of us, teenagers and young adults seem to be particularly affected. We are living in unprecedented times and youngsters need to prepare themselves for a future in which previous references related to work, personal relationships, security and identity are no longer valid. The result is a constant and significant increase of anxiety, depression, burn outs, high consumption of drugs, radicalization and struggle in decision making among youngsters. Youth workers are now facing the uncertainty of modern times in their own lives, while acting as major supporters in guiding and training youth in how to handle those challenges. The goal of this training is first of all, to equip youth workers with the emotional skills that help them to develop the resilience and flexibility needed to cope and perform in this complex context. Our emotions deeply influence our relationships with others and ourselves, our ability to self-regulate, to manage conflicts and to solve problems. They impact our perseverance and our effectiveness at work. Emotions are also a powerful source of data about what is important to us, what we care about and how we want to live our lives. Emotional agility, that is, to acknowledge and accept our emotions, even the hard ones, and to be able to name them properly, is essential to help us responding optimally to challenging everyday situations and to take steps that help us to move forwards in life. Simultaneously, this training offers a framework and approach, as well as a specific toolbox in emotional intelligence, that can support youth workers and educators to further foster emotional competences and resilience in their own youth groups. The objectives of this training are: - To bring together 24 youth workers to improve their emotional skills through different workshops and embodied activities - To create a safe space in which youth workers can share the challenges of their own context and exchange insights and good practices - To develop a specific toolbox with methodologies, activities and techniques based on the insights generated by the group - To develop a booklet introducing the topic of emotional intelligence in youth work by the trainers team
