The ACCOORD association manages the city of Nantes’s sociocultural centers, day-care centers, and teen spaces under a public service delegation agreement. As a key player in social and cultural initiatives, it aims to expand its efforts to promote youth civic engagement in order to align with the strategic direction of its executive leadership—a focus that has intensified since the June 2024 legislative elections and the low youth voter turnout (44% abstention rate among 18- to 24-year-olds). Our youth workers in teen spaces and 16-25 spaces have also observed a lack of interest and knowledge about politics and local, national, and European institutions among young people in Nantes. Many of these young people want to engage with these issues, which they find complex. They wish to get involved in their neighborhood and break free from stereotypes associated with youth and QPVs (Priority Neighborhoods under Urban Policy), but they lack the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to do so. In this context, the initial objectives of our project were as follows: 1) Raise awareness among young people in Nantes about the democratic process, their role as citizens, and the importance of their active participation 2) Introduce young people in Nantes to media issues and journalistic methods, in order to develop their critical thinking skills
