The DiscoverEU Inclusion Project: From Toulouse to the Arctic Circle – On the Rails of Adventure aims to offer an international mobility experience to young people with fewer opportunities, with the goal of promoting their social inclusion, personal development, and civic engagement. Based on the principles of non-formal education, this project seeks to strengthen participants' autonomy, develop their key competencies, and foster openness to European cultural diversity. One of the main objectives is to reduce inequalities in access to mobility by providing young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, rural areas, or those facing socio-economic barriers the opportunity to participate in a meaningful international experience. This approach aims to foster inclusion by creating a supportive environment where each young person feels valued and supported, regardless of their background. The project also aims to develop essential transversal skills for the empowerment of young people. Through a variety of activities, participants will strengthen their skills in intercultural communication, teamwork, project management, as well as personal abilities such as autonomy, problem-solving, and self-confidence. These skills will be developed through experiential learning methods, encouraging active participation at every stage of the project. Another key focus of the project is to promote active citizenship and European identity. By discovering another country, its culture, and values, young people will reflect on their role as European citizens. The project seeks to strengthen their sense of belonging to Europe, encourage their involvement in civic actions, and raise awareness of the values of solidarity, diversity, and democracy. In addition, the project integrates a strong environmental dimension, in line with current challenges related to climate change. Norway, known for its exemplary sustainability practices, provides an ideal setting to raise participants’ awareness of environmental issues. The project aims to awaken young people’s ecological consciousness, inform them about best practices in biodiversity protection, and encourage them to adopt eco-friendly behaviors in their daily lives. In terms of youth work practices, the project stands out for its participatory approach. Young participants will be involved in all phases of the project: activity planning, decision-making, logistical organization, and dissemination of results. This approach aims to stimulate their initiative, foster a sense of responsibility, and make them active agents in their own learning journey. Intercultural, linguistic, and risk management workshops will be organized to support them before departure. During the mobility, a mix of non-formal learning activities and outdoor experiences will help strengthen their skills while promoting group cohesion. Finally, the project includes post-mobility follow-up activities to help young people reflect on and value the skills acquired during the experience. Testimonial sessions, dissemination events, and awareness-raising activities targeting other young people will serve to share the project’s outcomes and inspire new participants to engage in DiscoverEU initiatives. In summary, this project is more than just a trip. It is an experience of personal and collective transformation, designed to empower young people, promote inclusion, and encourage civic and environmental engagement through a non-formal education approach.
