The Stem2Art project was designed as an interdisciplinary youth exchange that combined STEM fields and art with the aim of fostering creativity, critical thinking, as well as personal and emotional development among participants. Through innovative non-formal education methods, the project empowered young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, by providing them with the chance to engage in activities that integrated scientific experiments, artistic expression, and art therapy techniques. The project addressed the growing challenges young people face today, including mental health issues, lack of self-confidence, and limited access to quality education and mobility opportunities. We worked with young people from rural areas and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, many of whom had limited access to modern educational approaches and support for personal development. Similar challenges were identified by our partner organization from the Czech Republic, which also works with young people with fewer opportunities, including those experiencing isolation and limited access to international activities. During the nine-day exchange, participants took part in a series of interactive workshops where they explored how STEM can be used as a tool for artistic expression and emotional regulation. Through methods such as generative art, digital tools for visualizing emotions, experimentation with sound and color, and coding through artistic processes, young people developed innovative approaches to learning, reduced stress, and strengthened their confidence in their own abilities. In addition, participants developed intercultural competences, gained insights into diverse perspectives through collaboration with peers from another country, and improved their communication skills, including English language proficiency. The project placed a strong emphasis on mental health, incorporating reflective methods and tools that enabled young people to better regulate and understand their emotions. After the mobility, participants shared their knowledge with peers through local workshops and activities, ensuring a long-term impact of the project. They continued to apply the skills they developed in their everyday lives, became more active in their communities, and acted as promoters of responsible technology use and creative learning methods. Through this project, we supported young people in better coping with the challenges of growing up, mental health issues, and limited opportunities, by providing them with practical tools for personal and professional development.
