At the same time, this project was identified as relevant for our partners from Serbia, Czechia, Germany and Romania too so together we used this chance to come together, share, question, learn and try to find solutions to migration problems in our countries and our local communities. One of the main reasons for this project was many new, mostly Asian migrant coming to our countries and our communities in recent years which was not always well accepted, especially in small, closed communities as Bjelovar or Durdevac, and situation is very similar in other countries as well, with the exception of Germany but they have their problems too. We wanted to gather countries which are facing the same problems so there were Serbia, Czechia, Romania and Croatia and also have someone who has experience with migration and there was Germany too in this project as we wanted to discuss current problems but also to hear some good examples and experiences from the countries that have a long history of migration, with main focus on economics. We wanted to talk about problems, obstacles, fears from both local perspectives and migrants perspective to understand overall situation better and the focus on solutions and togeteht come up with ways and strategies to make situation better. We analysed economic situation, social and cultural, policies, media narratives… and then focused on the area where we can make positive changes and those are mostly cultural and social aspects. As we wanted to implement “nothing about us without us” policy, we invited some local people with migration background to the project. They were our guests and they shared their stories with us. We had two construction workers from Nepal who came to Croatia 3 years ago and work and live in Novo Virje (10km from Durdevac). With this project we wanted to encourage active citizenship of young people and empower and motivate our participants to get engaged in their local communities and be the voice between migrants and local people. AS it was our first project, we wanted slowly build relationships and develop network that will empower its people and continue to work to make communities more openminded and inclusive in the future.
