BE.YOU is a training course for youth workers involving organizations from seven countries: Croatia, Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal, Poland, Serbia, and Latvia. The project's aim is to strengthen youth organizations in the fight against radicalization and discrimination by providing youth workers from our organizations with the opportunity to develop skills, exchange methods, and share experiences accumulated over years of youth work. The partners will strengthen collaboration and enhance the work of their organizations. Additionally, BE.YOU aims to promote a pedagogical approach and an attitude in which radicalized or at-risk youth are not scrutinised or marginalized but included in the life of their communities. The project adopts a careful approach to building relationships with young people, with youth workers serving as mentors for their growth and helping them defend themselves from radicalism and extremism. For this reason, the acronym "BE.YOU" represents the partnership's approach to youth. Given that young people in certain conditions are at risk of social marginalization, the chances of becoming radicalized and adopting extremist views are high. In recent years, this phenomenon has become more pronounced with the rise of jihadist criminal organizations and the growth of extreme right-wing and xenophobic movements (white supremacism, neofascism, and neo-Nazism), along with the increasing popularity of conspiracy theories such as QAnon. For instance, the report "Preventing Radicalization of Children by Addressing Root Causes" by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe states that many young people join radical Islamic organizations involved in violent conflicts due to the "sense of social purpose" they attribute to them. According to the report, civil society organizations play a crucial role in promoting active participation of young people who have been or are being radicalized. •Increase the awareness of youth workers about the mechanisms and risks of different radical ideologies, fake news, propaganda, myths about religions, gender roles etc.; it will be achieved by implementing non-formal training activities about the above-mentioned topics, presenting real-life examples and exchanging tools. The philosophy behind these methods aims not to blame and further marginalise radicalized youth but to understand the complexity of factors, their fears and problems leading to radical behaviours and ideas; •Develop the professional skills of youth workers in training methods, facilitating specific activities and the ontology of a youth worker to increase the quality of their work - by experiencing specific non-formal education activities implemented during this project that they can replicate in their daily work with youth; by exchanging experiences and methods with other youth workers from partner countries; •Provide tools to prevent radicalisation of youth - it will be achieved by sharing real-life redemption stories, introducing methods to challenge one's beliefs and prejudices, and fostering the understanding of the inner dynamics (the whys) of a person on the path in and out of radicalisation; •Provide a strong basis for younger and less experienced youth workers for a successful career - older and more experienced YWs often do not share their experience with younger and less experienced colleagues so they are left on their own to learn by trial and error. To counter that, each partner organisation will send 2 YWs with more and 2 with less experience to facilitate the exchange and empower the less experienced ones to take a more active role. On top of that, the dissemination activity must be done in cooperation between the experienced and less experienced YWs to use the newly developed skills in practice; •Strengthen the role of youth workers in the prevention of youth radicalisation - it will be achieved by promoting the non-adultist, and non-paternalistic and inclusive approach in youth work where young people, their needs and ideas are encouraged and respected with no judgement, and do not require validation by adults; where young people are welcomed regardless of their behaviours and attitudes. The project objectives will be achieved through creative workshops, theater, simulations, peer education workshops, participation discussions, and group activities. The methodology applied will be non-formal and peer education.
